Beautiful Scotland in Bloom Competition

2004
In 2004, we were assessed by different judges.
They had very favourable comments on our carpet bed, many hanging baskets, tubs and newly created flower beds.
They also commended the Canal Bank Project and they noted that the earlier work there was maturing nicely.

They were encouraged to see our very positive approach towards the many important environmental issues of today. The judges noticed the composting bins at the Claggan Greenfingers Project, where people of all abilities work together to grow seasonal plants, were in full use. The use of recycled natural stone to build new raised flower beds, filled with the composted material and top soil donated by local house builders, all help to endorse the committee’s green environmental policy.

They were pleased to see that Caol School are working jointly with the community on projects to improve the landscaping at the school.

Their final comment - “certainly a community working hard to better their environment”

We entered this competition first time in 2001 and received
a certificate of commendation

Caol in Bloom was a finalist in 2003.

The awards ceremony was in Aberdeen and 3 delegates from Caol in Bloom, Ann, Lil and Margaret attended to receive the awards.presentation
 
They were guests of Aberdeen City Council and they were taken on a conducted tour of the city, visited Duthie Park and the greenhouses there and then to Aberdeen Ballroom where they had the reception and a beautiful meal.

Lady Grosvenor presented the awards. We received a certificate for Special Endeavour and a certificate for being a finalist.
